The much anticipated first phase of the new Ferndale on Republic opened on Thursday 28 March 2019 and includes the brand-new Pick n Pay, in their newly built 3,463m² store. Pick n Pay has called this location home since 1995 and we value their commitment and principles that ‘doing good is good business’. A fun fact, Pick n Pay was one of the first retailers to open their doors at the Randburg Waterfront and is now again one of the first retailers that opened their doors at Ferndale on Republic. Mr Raymond Ackerman, also known as the father of retail, purchased the first Pick n Pay store in Cape Town in 1967 and the chain has since grown to over 1680 stores in South Africa and seven other African countries. The brand is recognised as a most trusted retailer and the perfect partner for us as we embark on our next phase of growth at Ferndale on Republic.

Other large retail stores that celebrated their opening on Thursday, 28 March 2019 were Ackermans and Mr Price. We also welcomed Torga Optical, Cell C and Spicy Den as new retailers. Plus, you won’t ever go hungry! We now have a Panarotti’s, Fern Creek Spur and the Brooklyn Biltong store to cater for all your needs, no matter what the time of day. Pop in for a meal morning, noon and night, or just for a snack in-between. You are sure to find all your shopping needs are covered under one roof. Do you want a glimpse behind the scenes and stay up to date with a unique construction experience at Ferndale on Republic? Join our Hard Hat Tours to see how the buildings and phases are evolving from a previous parking area to an amazing new mall. Recycling depot opens at ferndale on republic mall randburg

Ferndale on Republic, previously known as Brightwater Commons in Randburg, is extremely proud to announce that the centre will once again be assisting the general public with recycling their household items.

“We encourage our shoppers and the Randburg community to recycle as this contributes to a cleaner neighbourhood and planet and it’s with this in mind, that we would like to educate the public on what recycling service Ferndale On Republic offer,” says centre manager, Francois du Buisson.

The area where patrons are encouraged to deposit their already sorted recycled items, is currently situated behind Home Stuff, close to the Cross Street entrance.  This will be the temporary recycling area until such time as the centre’s refurbishment concludes mid-2019, thereafter the recycling area will be relocated closer to Republic Road.
Important Ferndale On Republic Recycling Guidelines:

  • No mixed recyclables will be accepted nor other contaminated waste or recyclables. Recyclables must be clean and dry;
  • Recyclables must be sorted at home i.e. glass, plastic, paper and tins in bags.  Bags will be inspected prior to accepting it;
  • Patrons may only drop off recyclables at Ferndale On Republic between 8 AM and 4 PM, Monday to Sunday. Unfortunately, NO recycled items will be accepted after hours;
  • No garden waste will be accepted;
  • No wet waste will be accepted;
  • No furniture will be accepted;
  • No toxic, poisons and oil or any harmful chemicals will be accepted;
  • Please ensure to make use of the DESCO bin for all electronic waste;
  • No polystyrene will be accepted.

It is extremely important to adhere to these guidelines in order to keep the recycling initiative viable for patrons and the centre. “We strive to continuously offer this service to Ferndale On Republic shoppers and the greater Randburg community and thus everyone’s cooperation is imperative,” says du Buisson.

“We are not a substitute for the city waste removal and all NON-recyclables must still be placed in the bins for City of Jo’burg to collect,” he concludes.
